It was winter in the tropics, and still 32 degrees every day. As soon as I got there it was exactly as I'd expected. It had just rained and was glowing green fecundity. Every growing thing was bigger and greener than I had ever seen. We stayed in a nice little place and hit the pool as soon as possible. The locals were walking around in jumpers! It was the most amazing experience, being so far from home yet still in Australia.
After the show opened we rented a tiny car and some swags and drove to Litchfield National Park, then on to Katherine for the night. I have never swum in a pool whose water you could drink. It was awesomely beautiful out there.
